Lafreniere Park

Last Tuesday, on the second day of the Andrews' visit, we decided to go to Lafreniere Park to feed the ducks.  This is probably one of our most frequented parks in the NOLA area. It is huge, there are a couple different playgrounds, and it just happens to be a bird sanctuary. On any given day Bentley can find ducks, swans, egrets, chickens, and even roosters to chase around and taunt.  For whatever reason on this particular day, there were a TON of seagulls there. Their presence at this park must be seasonal because I've never noticed them before. There were so many there on this day that most of the ducks were too intimidated to even try to eat the bread that we were tossing their way. Any time we tossed bread into the water a huge swarm of seagulls would start pecking the ducks until one of their own got the bread.  After awhile we gave up trying to feed the ducks and had some fun feeding the seagulls out of our hands.  

On a sidenote, whenever we go feed ducks I have to bring extra bread to feed my own little duckling.  The main appeal for Bentley when we go feed ducks is running back and forth on the bridge and eating the still half frozen bread. I think for every slice of bread that goes into the water, Bentley eats two of his own. Silly boy! 

  

Once we ran out of bread, we headed to the playground for awhile and then went home to meet John for dinner. Later that night we actually came back to this same park to see their impressive display of Christmas lights.  We didn't stay too long though because it was pretty cold and we weren't that well prepared for the weather. We still enjoyed seeing the lights and the boys had fun making ornaments and hanging them on the trees.
