Shh...don't tell the Water District

Two weeks ago, my backyard looked like this:

It now looks like this:

We now have our own patch of grass! It really isn't much more than a patch, but I still love being able to look out my back window and see green! Last week while John was driving home from school he saw some landscapers finishing up a job just a couple blocks away from our house. He noticed a pile of extra sod and decided that he would stop and see what they were planning to do with it. They told him that they were just about to throw it away so he was welcome to take it all. He piled his trunk full and the above picture is the result of his ingenuity. We've been wanting a lawn for awhile now, but we ultimately decided it wasn't worth the money and the hassle since we'll only be living here for less than a year. Still, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a free lawn! We're still not sure how we are going to cut it, but who cares about the details!

Bentley wanted to get in on some of the action too. This boy has a serious craving for water. He will drink it at any chance he gets. He sucks all of the water out of his washcloths in the bathtub, tries drinking the chlorinated water at the pool, and comes running anytime he hears me turn on a faucet. I think it's really sad that he thinks of water as a treat...it's probably the best tasting thing that he can eat/drink right now!

Here are just a few of the things we found in our backyard as we cleared a space for the grass. Nice...maybe I shouldn't let Bentley play out there until he gets his Tetanus shot!
